Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) makes sure that teen inpatients and chronic outpatients don't miss out on what is a highlight for many teens—prom.

CHAM teen patients were invited to bring a date to our special hip-hop prom for a night of socializing with friends, fellow and former patients. The more than 75 teens who attended dressed up, de-stressed and left their pain behind to party with friends in CHAM's transformed event space, thanks to the Child Life Specialist team led by prom chair Katie Adelhardt.

One teen, Aisha Guadalupe, now 19, attended her second CHAM prom. She is a Hodgkin lymphoma survivor, and is now a freshman at Smith College in Massachusetts. Alisha, and all of the girls got the full experience of prom—including the fun of getting ready. Professionals did their hair, nails and makeup, in a specially designed "salon," and all guests received corsages and boutonnieres. All enjoyed the food, hip-hop performances, dancing and photo booth.
