The People

If you ask anyone what they love about CHAM, almost everyone’s first response will be “the people.” This includes not only our coworkers, but our patients too.

Throughout history the Bronx has served as a landing ground for various cultures and ethnic groups to build their communities in NYC. This includes the Irish, Germans, Italians, Jews, Albanians, migrant African Americans from southern United States, Cambodians, Indians, Haitians, Jamaicans, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, and others. Over time these diverse cultures have helped create a unique culture in the Bronx and many remain in the form of distinct neighborhoods and communities. CHAM residents have the distinct honor of not only getting to explore these communities (and eat all the delicious food, of course), but also the opportunity to learn from them and create unique bonds through patient care and community outreach.

The Scenery

Like most of NYC the Bronx is a largely urban area, but did you know that it is actually the greenest borough with approximately 22% being covered with parklands? We have both the largest (Pelham Bay Park) and the third largest (Van Cortlandt Park; right next to CHAM) parks in NYC at our fingertips. For reference, Pelham Bay Park is more than three times the size of Central Park, NYC’s 5^th largest park. The Bronx also boasts the country’s largest botanical garden (NY Botanical Garden) which is only a 1.5 mile walk/drive from CHAM down the equally green Mosholu Parkway. As for our aquatic scenery, despite being the only NYC borough on mainland USA we also have plenty of beautiful shoreline, including the Hudson River (visible from the stunning Wave Hill Garden) and our very own Orchard Beach (complete with neighboring City Island for all your seafood needs).
