Born in Albany, Georgia, Winnie King began her higher education studies at Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland, earning an Associate’s Degree. She then earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Hood College in Frederick, Maryland. Further interested in health services, she continued her education at Howard University in Washington D.C., where she earned a Degree of Medical Doctor and completed her residency training in emergency medicine. She was later awarded a Ph.D. in Science from Hood College.
Dr. King began her broadcasting career as a medical reporter for WMAR-TV in Baltimore. That led to her becoming full-time health editor and reporter for KCBS-TV in Los Angeles. She also appeared as medical expert and health reporter on the "George and Alana" syndicated talk show, starring George Hamilton and Alana Stewart.
With her extensive medical and journalistic experience, Dr. King was given the chance to host her own program, "Women and Children First," on the America’s Health Network, based in Orlando, Florida. She then joined the program, "Speaking of Women’s Health," on the Lifetime cable television network, as one of its co-hosts.
Dr. King has been the recipient of numerous awards for medical journalism, including awards from the American Diabetes Association, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American College of Emergency Physicians.
She is board certified in emergency medicine and has practiced in the emergency departments of hospitals in Maryland and Washington, D.C. She is currently an attending physician at Florida Hospital Centra Care in Orlando.
