Family Learning Place Orientation
The Family Learning Place offers a brief orientation and informational tour on how materials are organized as well as how to search and evaluate information on the Internet.  Please ask a staff member to assist you.

Health Information Literature Searches
Visitors are welcome to conduct their own searches or to consult with our staff. Upon request, we will perform a literature search for you and create a customized information packet that can be picked up, brought to you in the hospital, or mailed to your home.

If you would like us to perform a literature search for you, you may come in and fill out a literature request form and give it to one of our staff members. Requests can also be taken over the phone: 718-741-2357, via fax: 718-741-2228 or by e-mail: flp@montefiore.org.

We will do our best to get back to you within 48 hours, but may need more time to do a thorough search.  If more immediate assistance is needed, please call your health care provider.

Please note that our staff members and volunteers are not medical professionals and are not qualified to provide medical advice or suggestions pertaining to your child's health issues. They can only guide you to information.  We encourage you to discuss any questions with a health care professional.

Computers and Internet Access
We offer two public access computers with word processing capabilities and Internet access. Our staff can assist you with using our computers, and can offer suggestions regarding helpful Web sites. In addition, we offer instruction on how to search and evaluate health information on the Internet.

Carl Sagan Discovery Program
The Family Learning Place has two workstations that offer free access to the Carl Sagan Discovery Program, an innovative interactive educational and recreational computer program that focuses on science and health. For more information, please speak with one of our staff members.

Health Education Programs
In addition to our resource collection and library services, The Family Learning Place promotes family health in the community by organizing a variety of workshops and other educational activities. Please be sure to check our monthly Events Calendar, and contact The Family Learning Place for more information.

Parent Support and Networking
We maintain an up-to-date list of support groups, community-based agencies and national organizations that work on behalf of children and their families. We can also arrange for a trained parent of a special need's child to assist you with peer support and resource information. Please call The Family Learning Place for more information.

Family Learning Place Cart
Each day, we circulate The Family Learning Place Cart throughout the ambulatory and inpatient areas, and can bring materials to you in the hospital or send them to your home.

Family Information Centers
Family Information Centers are located on inpatient units and in some outpatient waiting areas. Here, you will find health-related resources and information about The Family Learning Place and the Carl Sagan Discovery Program.
