Alex Okun, MD
Dr. Okun completed medical school at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1983, and his pediatrics residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center/Babies Hospital, New York, NY in 1986. He completed a NIMH-sponsored fellowship, "Mental Health Research in Primary Care Pediatrics" (1988-1990) at the Bronx Municipal Hospital Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine under the mentorship of Dr. Ruth E.K. Stein.

Dr. Okun worked for two years in Southeast Kentucky (1986-88) as a primary care pediatrician and consultant to family practitioners. As attending pediatrician at Jacobi Medical Center (1990-98), he directed the Pediatric Outreach Program, an intensive, multidisciplinary primary care program for children with special health care needs.

After joining CHAM in 1998, Dr. Okun developed and directs the LINCS Program, designed with similar goals. He developed and coordinates the curriculum in bioethics for the Department of Pediatrics and serves on the Institutional Bioethics Committee at Montefiore. For two years, he led Project DOCC at Montefiore, a resident education project enhancing trainees’ knowledge and skills in caring for children with special health care needs.

Dr. Okun is currently Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Einstein, and has won several teaching awards at Einstein and in the Pediatrics Department. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Ambulatory Pediatrics Association, the American Academy of Home Care Physicians and the American Academy on Physician and Patient.
