Gastroenterology
The section of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at CHAM is one of the premier centers of excellence for children with gastrointestinal, nutritional, and liver diseases in the tri-state area. We offer a modern, state-of-the-art endoscopy unit with the capability of providing many cutting edge procedures and interventions for children with complex GI diseases.
We serve a broad range of problems including:
Inflammatory Bowel Diseases: Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis commonly present in childhood. Specialized treatments include the use of newer drugs such as Remicade and other immunosupressants that have steroid-sparing effects. Access to the most modern pediatric endoscopy unit in the tri-state area with ambulatory anaesthesia makes the experience more pleasant for inpatient and outpatient visits.
Gastroesophageal Reflux and esophageal disorders (GER): Although the Division treats most GER patients with empirical therapy, modern endoscopic equipment, esophageal pH monitoring and esophageal motility equipment are available for children with complex esophageal disorders. Dr. Yolanda Rivasof the Division has a special interest in children with Motility Disorders of the esophagus.
Short Gut Syndrome: The Division has successfully taken care of dozens of children who have unfortunately lost most of their intestinal tract from congenital disorders of the GI tract. All members of the Division have special expertise in intravenous and enteral therapies that optimize the nutritional needs of these children for growth, and special expertise in the prevention of liver disease that often accompanies children with short gut.
