Neuro-Oncology/Brain Tumors

CHAM offers a complete range of cancer treatment options, including at-home chemotherapy and intensity modulated radiation therapy. Brain tumors are the second most common cancer – and the most common solid tumors – in children and adolescents.  The location and nature of these tumors makes them a complex challenge to treat. At CHAM, we offer a sophisticated, comprehensive blend of cutting-edge technology, highly skilled multi-disciplinary care and a commitment to making the lives of our patients and their families as easy as possible. CHAM is the region's only children's hospital with a complete range of cancer treatment options, including at-home chemotherapy and intensity modulated radiation therapy.

The best people, the best technology, the best treatment

At the heart of our efforts is a vastly integrated team composed of the some of the nation’s finest pediatric specialists, including oncologists, neurosurgeons, radiation oncologists, neuro-radiologists, neuro-pathologists, oncology nurses, social workers, Child Life therapists and, when necessary, experts in palliative care. Designed to address all the physical and emotional needs of our patients and their loved ones, our team makes CHAM the most versatile pediatric neuro-oncology program in the region.

We equip our outstanding team of experts with state-of-the-art technology and leading-edge treatment options available in order to continually improve the health of children and adolescents with brain and spinal cord tumors. We have earned our reputation for excellence in all areas of treatment, which include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant.

A team approach for highly individualized care

Arranging to see the myriad of specialists required for comprehensive care for pediatric brain tumors can sometimes require a frustrating web of appointments, referrals, conferences – and waiting. CHAM is challenging that traditional model by dedicating monthly office hours where our patients get to see their full spectrum of care providers in the same place, at the same time. This unique and invaluable opportunity is part of our commitment to making a challenging process as easy as possible for our patients and their loved ones.

Throughout their treatment at CHAM, each of our patients benefit from the combined experience and expertise of our tumor board, which meets weekly to review each case and determine the most effective, individualized strategy.  At all times, our patients’ care is being guided by a truly inter-disciplinary panel of specialists in pediatric oncology, surgery, pathology, radiology, pediatric neurosurgery, radiation oncology, nuclear medicine and other applicable areas.

Pioneering and participating in cutting edge research

At CHAM, our patients also have access to the very best and most promising national clinical trials, including those available only in limited areas, thanks to our ties to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. In addition, CHAM is heavily involved in developing our own  treatment agents in our bid to develop newer, more effective chemotherapy treatments for children and adolescents suffering from brain tumors.
