Neurosurgery
The Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery at The Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) has experience unrivaled in caring for children with neurological illnesses. Its two surgeons have a combined experience of over 45 years in treating such conditions as tumors of the nervous system, craniofacial anomalies, hydrocephalus, injuries to nerves, cerebral palsy, tethered spinal cords and other congenital abnormalities of the nervous system. Both are recognized by their peers having served in offices in several national neurosurgical organizations. Both Dr. Goodrich and Dr. Abbott are certified by both the American Board of Neurological Surgery and the American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery.
Dr. Goodrich has been the Director of the Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery since 1986. He has a particular interest in complex craniofacial anomalies being a key central member of the Craniofacial Center at Montefiore. He has been advanced the surgical techniques used for repair these conditions. He has authored numerous book chapters and articles on the subject and is known internationally as a prominent lecturer on the topic. Dr. Abbott was recruited in 2004 to become the Director of Surgical Neurooncology at CHAM. He has a long and extensive experience in managing tumors of the nervous system in children. An integral part of this experience has been work in developing techniques for monitoring the health of the nervous system during surgery. The Division also has extensive experience and interest in the other conditions affecting the nervous systems of children. While we offer the most technologically sophisticated treatments and are actively working to advance the science of pediatric neurosurgery we strongly feel that we are here to serve our young patients by listening and responding to their needs.
