Clinical Experience

Our location in the Bronx county of New York City allows for exposure to significant diversity in pathophysiology and communities as we are one of the leading referral and delivery centers not only for the Bronx, but also for portions of Southern Westchester and Rockland counties.

We provide family-integrated multidisciplinary care with active involvement of the respiratory therapists, clinical pharmacist, nutritionist, lactation consultants, and physical, occupational and speech therapists. Neonatal nurse practitioners and physician assistants work collaboratively with the physician and nursing teams. We have an active neonatal transport service providing transport services for our unit and other referral NICUs in the Bronx and surrounding communities. All neonatal surgeries and neurointensive care including therapeutic hypothermia and continuous video-EEG monitoring are performed at the Weiler Division.

The Maternal-Fetal Intervention program based at the Weiler campus provides trainees with opportunities to gain experience in the management of infants requiring EXIT procedures among other acute stabilization care processes. The Pediatric Heart Center as well as the Pediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU) at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) permits us to care for infants with complicated neonatal heart conditions and infants requiring ECMO for respiratory and non-respiratory indications. The neonatal service provides consultative, collaborative care for these patients in conjunction with Pediatric Cardiology and the PCCU team. Post-discharge high-risk infant health and developmental surveillance follow-up care is provided as an adjunct to each infant’s medical home. Our Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia and Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Clinics provide multidisciplinary care to patients affected by these conditions.
